PMB 40/100

Polymer Modified Bitumen PMB 40/100 for Africa

PMB 40/100 for Africa is a polymer-modified binder for road projects that require a balance of flexibility and resistance to deformation. Polymer Modified Bitumen 40/100 has a nominal penetration range of 40 to 100 (0.1 mm) at 25 °C. However, the penetration range alone does not determine the binder’s full performance.

Polymer modification can improve resistance to permanent deformation and fatigue cracking, depending on the formulation and grade designation. Therefore, project teams should select the complete PMB grade according to the applicable specification. Tiger Bitumen, a brand owned by HY International Group, supplies Polymer Modified Bitumen grades, including PMB 40/100, for African road projects.

PMB 40/100 Specifications from Tiger Bitumen

Polymer Modified Bitumen 40/100
Property Specifications Test Method
Penetration @ 25 °C (0.1 mm) 40-100 EN 1426
The 40/100 grade defines the penetration range. All other declared values depend on the complete EN 14023 designation agreed for the order. The PMB 40/100 Technical Data Sheet and shipment Certificate of Analysis provide the applicable declared values.

Understanding the Softening-Point Class

The 40/100 penetration range does not, by itself, determine the binder’s suitability for a specific application. The complete EN 14023 designation also identifies the applicable softening-point class and other required performance properties.

A higher minimum softening point generally indicates greater resistance to softening at elevated temperatures. As a result, the appropriate PMB 40/100 class may suit general wearing courses or heavier-traffic asphalt mixes, provided it meets the project’s requirements. We confirm the specified class during the quotation process.

Applications and Grade Selection

PMB 40/100 may be considered for asphalt mixtures that require a modified binder with suitable stiffness and flexibility. Potential applications include:

  • General road wearing courses.
  • Heavier-traffic asphalt applications, subject to the selected softening-point class and project specification.

Before selecting a grade, check the expected traffic loads, pavement temperatures, mixture design and governing standard. The final suitability depends on the complete designation and the project’s performance requirements.

For comparison, explore PMB 45/80 and PMB 65/105. These grades have different nominal penetration ranges, so the project specification should guide the selection. If your project requires a Superpave PG binder instead, see our Performance Grades Bitumen range.

Export Supply and Packing

Tiger Bitumen ships PMB 40/100 from its packing facility in the Karachi Export Processing Zone, near Port Qasim and Karachi Port, to African destinations. We primarily supply the product in new steel drums.

For projects that require bag packing, 1 metric ton (1,000 kg) PP woven bags in a steel cage may also be available, subject to confirmation for the specified grade and order. For further details, see Bitumen Drum Packing.

How to Order PMB 40/100 for Africa

  1. Send your requirements. Share the project specification or complete PMB designation, required quantity, preferred packing and destination port with the applicable Incoterm.
  2. Receive a quotation. Tiger Bitumen reviews your requirements and confirms the proposed designation, FOB or CFR price, lead time and available quantity.
  3. Arrange shipment and documentation. The order documentation includes a grade-specific Technical Data Sheet and a shipment-specific Certificate of Analysis. Where required, third-party inspection through SGS or Bureau Veritas can be arranged by agreement.

To request a PMB 40/100 quotation, send your project details and destination port to our export team.
