Polymer Modified Bitumen PMB 10/40 for Africa
PMB 10/40 for Africa is a hard-grade Polymer Modified Bitumen with a nominal penetration range of 10 to 40 (0.1 mm) at 25 °C, tested according to EN 1426. Within the PMB range, this grade has a low penetration range and is typically considered for applications requiring a stiff modified binder. Its performance depends on the complete EN 14023 designation, formulation and project requirements.
Tiger Bitumen, a brand owned by HY International Group, supplies PMB 10/40 for Africa’s heavy-duty paving projects, including highways, ports, container terminals and airport pavements. Before placing an order, confirm the complete designation and applicable standard in your project specification. This helps align the supplied binder with the intended application.

| The 10/40 designation identifies the penetration range. The complete EN 14023 designation and project specification determine the other required properties. These may include softening point, elastic recovery, storage stability and Fraass breaking point, as stated in the grade-specific Technical Data Sheet and shipment Certificate of Analysis. | ||
Understanding the EN 14023 Designation
The 10/40 designation identifies a nominal penetration range rather than every performance requirement of the finished binder. Therefore, the full designation also needs to meet the required softening-point class and other applicable criteria. Share your project’s complete designation or specification so the grade requirements can be checked when preparing your quotation.
Typical Applications
PMB 10/40 may suit high-modulus asphalt mixtures and pavements carrying heavy, slow-moving or channelised traffic. In these situations, the project may require a stiff modified binder with appropriate high-temperature performance. However, the engineer’s specification and the complete grade designation determine whether this grade is suitable.
- Major highways and heavy freight routes
- Ports and container terminals
- Airport pavements, subject to project requirements
- Other heavy-load pavements specified for a high-modulus binder
If your project calls for a less stiff modified binder, compare PMB 25/55. Alternatively, for an unmodified hard grade, review Bitumen 30/40.
Packing, Shipping and Inspection
Tiger Bitumen primarily supplies PMB 10/40 in new steel drums. If your project requires bag packing, 1 metric ton (1,000 kg) PP woven bags in a steel cage may also be available, subject to confirmation for the order.
The packing facility is located in the Karachi Export Processing Zone, close to Port Qasim and Karachi Port, supporting container shipments to African ports. For documentation, the order includes a PMB 10/40-specific Technical Data Sheet and a shipment-specific Certificate of Analysis, subject to order confirmation. In addition, SGS or Bureau Veritas inspection can be arranged when required by the buyer. See our Bitumen Drum Packing information.
