PMB Grades 10/40, 25/55, 45/80, 40/100, 65/105, 75/130, 90/150, 120/200 and 200/300
Polymer Modified Bitumen for Africa is used in road construction projects that require improved binder performance under demanding traffic and temperature conditions. Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) is paving-grade bitumen modified with polymers to improve its performance across a wider range of temperatures and traffic loads. Compared with conventional Penetration Bitumen, the appropriate PMB grade can improve resistance to rutting, permanent deformation, fatigue and cracking. As a result, PMB is a suitable option for demanding road and airport paving projects.
Tiger Bitumen, a brand owned by HY International Group, supplies Polymer Modified Bitumen for Africa for road, highway, airport and heavy-duty paving projects. Our export coverage includes East Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, North Africa and Southern Africa.
Our PMB range covers multiple nominal penetration ranges. The exact grade, softening-point class, and performance requirements should match the project specification.
HY INTERNATIONAL has the capability to Export and Supply Polymer Modified Bitumen according to the applicable EN 14023, IS 15462, AASHTO Performance Grade or project-specific specification. The complete grade designation is confirmed for each enquiry.
PMB Grades and EN 14023 Designations
Unlike conventional penetration-grade bitumen, Polymer Modified Bitumen uses a designation that identifies its nominal penetration range and softening-point class. Under EN 14023, a designation such as PMB 45/80 identifies a nominal penetration range measured at 25 °C in units of 0.1 mm.
The complete designation also includes a softening-point class. The required class and declared performance properties depend on the project specification. Therefore, confirm the full grade designation and applicable requirements when requesting a quotation.
Projects may also specify PMB under IS 15462 or use AASHTO Performance Grade classifications where applicable. These systems use different classification approaches, so their designations are not directly interchangeable. We confirm the applicable standard and requirements in the quotation.
Polymer Modification in PMB
Manufacturers can use different polymer systems to achieve the required binder properties. Common examples include:
- Elastomers: SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) is commonly used in road-grade PMB. It can form an elastic network that helps the binder recover some deformation after a load is removed.
- Plastomers: EVA and certain polyethylene-based modifiers can increase stiffness and softening point, depending on the formulation.
Tiger Bitumen supplies PMB according to the specified grade and project requirements. Confirm the required polymer system and performance criteria before ordering.
Applications of Polymer Modified Bitumen in Road Construction
PMB is often selected for pavement applications that face demanding traffic or service conditions, including:
- Highways, freight corridors and climbing lanes with heavy, repetitive axle loads.
- Intersections and other areas where traffic moves slowly or stops frequently.
- Airport aprons, taxiways and runways where the project specifies a modified binder.
- Bridge-deck surfacing and suitable structural overlays.
- Road maintenance, rehabilitation and gap-graded asphalt mixes such as Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA).
How to Choose the Right PMB Grade
Select the PMB grade according to the project specification rather than the grade number alone. Consider the following factors:
- Traffic loading, traffic speed, and expected axle loads.
- Maximum and minimum pavement temperatures.
- The intended application, such as a wearing course, binder course, SMA, airport pavement, or bridge-deck surfacing.
- The governing standard and required performance tests.
If your project requires an unmodified binder, explore our Penetration Bitumen range. Alternatively, review our Performance Grades Bitumen for projects that specify Superpave PG classifications.
PMB Packing and Export Supply to Africa
We primarily supply Polymer Modified Bitumen in new steel drums. For projects requiring alternative packaging, PMB may also be available in 1 metric ton (1,000 kg) PP woven bags in a steel cage, subject to confirmation for the specified grade and order.
Tiger Bitumen’s packing facility is located in the Karachi Export Processing Zone, near Port Qasim and Karachi Port. This location supports container shipments to African ports. We confirm the available packing option against the grade, order quantity, and project requirements during quotation.
For more information, see our Bitumen Drum Packing page.
PMB Quality Control and Export Documentation
For each order, we provide a grade-specific Technical Data Sheet and a shipment-specific Certificate of Analysis in line with the confirmed grade and project specification. Where required, buyers can arrange third-party inspection through SGS or Bureau Veritas, subject to agreement.
We confirm lead time, available quantity, and documentation requirements during the quotation process. Buyers should verify that the proposed grade and test requirements meet their project specifications before placing an order.
